What Is My Skin Type?

Knowing your skin type means you can know how to care for it better, how to wear makeup more effectively so it lasts longer, and how to look after skin for different treatments.

There are 4 skin types which you are born with:

Oily Skin

The most common skin type; Usually characterised by having a shine to your skin, or an obvious oil layer. You might get breakouts, blackheads and blemishes. You may even have acne if you have very oily skin, and have large, open pores. Often people with oily skin will have a sallow appearance, meaning they look more yellow toned than others.

Dry Skin

The total opposite to oily skin. You might have dry, or even flaky skin as well as a 'tight' feeling, with uneven texture. You may also have tight, small pores and you won't often find pimples on someone with dry skin but you are more prone to having sensitivities.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is just that - a combination of 2 or more skin types. The most common combination is an oily t-zone with dry or normal cheeks, but that doesn't always have to be the case. You can get both open pores and pimples in some paces like your chin and nose, as well as dry, flaky patches on your cheeks.

Normal Skin

The least common skin type. Normal skin has the perfect balance between oil and moisture. They have neither tight pores or open pores, nor pimples and flakiness. Your skin is smooth, supple with good circulation, colour and texture.

Anything around these four skin types that you might see targeted on products, are actually skin conditions. A skin condition is purely something that appears on your skin and are usually caused by medical conditions (that you're born with or develop), hormones, ethnicity, genetics, sun damage, stress allergies, medication and so on. Some conditions include sensitivities, dehydration, excess hair, open pores, flakiness, eczema, blemishes, pigmentation, crows feet and more.
